Fully 3D Uniform Resolution Transmission microPET Image Reconstruction
نویسنده
چکیده
MAP (maximum a posteriori) reconstructions of transmission images produce more accurate ACFs (attenuation correction factors) than smoothed division of blank and transmission scans and analytical methods. Also, for highly speciÞc tracers, transmission images can provide useful anatomical cues for use in localizing structures and image coregistration. The resolution of MAP images reconstructed with a spatially invariant smoothing prior is known to be nonuniform. Spatially variant smoothing parameters are used here to achieve uniform resolution throughout the transmission image. We also investigate the relationship between resolution and the global smoothing parameter through computer simulations. The resulting calibration curve can be used to select the smoothing parameter to achieve a desired spatial resolution. The tractability and feasibility of our method is demonstrated through an application to phantom transmission data collected using a Concorde P4 microPET system.

High-resolution 3D Bayesian image reconstruction using the microPET small-animal scanner.
A Bayesian method is described for reconstruction of high-resolution 3D images from the microPET small-animal scanner. Resolution recovery is achieved by explicitly modelling the depth dependent geometric sensitivity for each voxel in combination with an accurate detector response model that includes factors due to photon pair non-collinearity and inter-crystal scatter and penetration. To reduc...
متن کاملMethods to evaluate the performance of kilovoltage cone-beam computed tomography in the three-dimensional reconstruction space
Background: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanners for image-guided radiotherapy are in clinical use today, but there has been no consensus on uniform acceptance to verify the CBCT image quality yet. The present work proposed new methods to fully evaluate the performance of CBCT in its three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction space. Materials and Methods: Compared to the traditional methods...
متن کاملEvaluation of 3D Reconstruction Algorithms for a Small Animal PET Camera
The use of paired, opposing position-sensitive phototube scintillation cameras (SCs) operating in coincidence for small animal imaging with positron emitters is currently under study. Because of the low sensitivity of the system even in 3D mode and the need to produce images with high resolution, it was postulated that a 3D expectation maximization (EM) reconstruction algorithm might be well su...
متن کاملModel-based normalization for iterative 3D PET image reconstruction.
We describe a method for normalization in 3D PET for use with maximum a posteriori (MAP) or other iterative model-based image reconstruction methods. This approach is an extension of previous factored normalization methods in which we include separate factors for detector sensitivity, geometric response, block effects and deadtime. Since our MAP reconstruction approach already models some of th...
متن کاملUltra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...
